Vitória 283 is a Mala Voadora project, carried out in partnership with the Centro Social de Nossa Senhora da Vitória (CSPNSV) and A3S – Association for Social Entrepreneurship and Third Sector Sustainability, and co-financed by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation within the scope from the PARTIS program – Artistic Practices for Social Inclusion.
For two years, Mala Voadora and children from Freguesia da Vitória set out to explore the urban route between the Centro Social da Vitória and Mala Voadora, at Rua do Almada nº 283, using various artistic practices and tools observation, with the aim of inventing our relationship with the city of Porto.
In addition to documenting the project, I developed and carried out the photography workshop and photographic practice with the children.
I gave each of them an analogue point-and-shoot camera with colour film. Each was child therefore able to photographed the city and their day to day life not only during the workshop but throughout all project, giving us access to their own point of view. Every time the film was complete I would swap it for a new one.
The result goes far beyond what is visible in the images and proved to be a creative catalyst for individual growth not only of the children, but also the professionals who work with them.
Here is a sample of the project.
